Cobh and Titanic experience

We’re getting a little behind in our blog... but we have lots of driving today so maybe we can catch up.

After cashel rock we went down to a little island city called Cobh (pronounced cove). Not only was the city and street very very cute but Cobh is a pretty interesting city in history.

A while ago the queen came to Cobh and they changed the name of the city to queenstown.

Queenstown was the last port of call for the Titanic.

Meaning of the 2100 some people on the titanic, 123 of them got on at queenstown and it was the last stop before it crossed the Atlantic to New York.

7 people got off at Cobh and one of the titanic workers abandoned ship here as well.

We got to walk through a little museum and experience that talked about the history of the people who departed for the tiatin from queenstown. Sheridan followed the story of Mary McGovern and I was Mary Agatha Glynn. Of the 123 people who departed from Cobh only 44 survived. Including me and Sheridan! In fact we escaped on the same lifeboat. My person actually was the only person on the lifeboat who knew how to steer the boat and was the only reason the boat moved out of the way of the sinking ship.

Anyways it was cool we learned lots of facts.

Then we explored the city and the GIANT Catholic Church there.

Then we went to Cork and checked into our hotel. We went to dinner in a pizza beer garden and it was so awesome. Sheridan found it. The pizza was okay but it was just a really cool place.

This is a statue of Annie Moore and her family. She was the first immigrant to ever pass inspection on Ellis Island. Very cool. She was from Cobh.
