Cork City Gaol (Jail in Gaelic)

This jail originally opened as a male and female prison in the 1820s - later on it became a women’s prison only.

We almost didnt go to see it but we were really happy we did. The jail was in beautiful condition and they had a really great tour that walked you through the whole facility.

We read about the crimes of real prisoners, got to experience their cells, and saw actual writings/carvings on the prison walls!

Enjoy the pics!
